Foo Fighters - Run Lyrics
Grohl is telling the audience to run for their own lives and to escape the reality that they are living in right now and live it differently.
These two lines bring the political themes of the song forward. Grohl is talking about politicians and their “parades” or political rallies, and how they put on a charade to appeal to the masses.
Dave seems to be referring to a need to escape from the world. More specifically, its chaos.
The idea that there’s still time to enjoy life; even though time is limited, one needs to get the most out of it.
“Wake up” is a call to everyone to realize that they should start living in the present and appreciate their lives.
Wake up
Run for your life with me
Wake up
Run for your life with me
In another perfect life
In another perfect light
We run
We run
We run
The rats are on parade
Another mad charade
What you gonna do?
The hounds are on the chase
Everything's erased
What you gonna do?
I need some room to breath
You can stay asleep
If you wanted to
They say that's nothings free
You can run with me
If you wanted to
Yeah you can run with me
If you wanted to
Before the time runs out
There's somewhere to run
Wake up
Run for your life with me
Wake up
Run for your life with me
In another perfect life
In another perfect light
We run
We run
We run
Run!
We are the nation's stakes
If everything's erased
What you gonna' do?
I need some room to breathe
You can run with me
If you wanted to
Yeah you can run with me
If you wanted to
Before the time runs out
There's somewhere to run
Wake up
Run for your life with me
Wake up
Run for your life with me
In another perfect life
In another perfect light
We run
We run
We run
Run!
Wake up
Run for your life with me
Wake up
Run for your life with me
In another perfect life
In another perfect light
We run
We run
We run
Run!
Dave is talking to people that don’t break the mould, and what they will do when the society they conform to all disappears.
"What you gonna' do?' is a question asked to the audience to influence them to listen to the band.
Grohl talks about another life, a perfect life and this would appeal to the audience. Despite this, there is no other perfect world and he is enforcing the idea of making a perfect world, and another perfect light.
Instrumentation in 'Run'
The instruments used within Foo Fighter's 'Run' and also used throughout many of their songs include:
- Vocals
- Electric Guitar
- Bass Guitar
- Drums, Percussion
Below is a graph to show the different members of 'Foo Fighters' and their capability in the band of playing instruments. Dave Grohl has been the Lead Vocalist in 'Foo Fighters' since the band was formed to present day. Whereas, Smear, Stahl and Shiflett have changed roles throughout this time.

In Foo Fighter's' 'Run', we notice that the instrumentation is extremely dense as there is a lot of heavy, loud instruments challenging the meaningful lyrics sung by Grohl. Despite this, the beginning of the song is a lot sparser than when the song speeds up and then is, therefore, a lot louder and aggressive.

As the song begins, Grohl is shown with a subtle mouth opening and this shows that at that particular time the lyrics are softer and less aggressive. As the song progresses. However, his eyes begin to become more squinted, expressing his passion within the lyrics with a much faster tempo and denser instrumentation. In the third image, his eyes are even more squinted and almost look as if to be closed. This increases the intestacy displayed by Grohl as his head and overall posture is more tilted back to express the power of the song and its lyrics.
