Different meanings portrayed in the logo displayed on the front of the album.
Concrete image, linking with the album name's theme
The colours on the album offer a huge contrast as the concrete is grey and presents darker connotations and the gold is a much brighter colour displaying a much happier contrast. The two colours, although contrasting each-other, do compliment one another too. This works well overall as the logo stands out but the gold doesn't look tacky.

The overall effect of Foo Fighter's 'Concrete and Gold' album is that it is very minimal and basic. Despite this, the colours and images are displayed to represent the name of the album perfectly. This is due to the image being concrete below a gold emblem, which could be the band's representative logo. I think this because the two triangular shapes portray two 'F's representing 'Foo Fighters'. Turning the logo 90 degrees to the left also enables it to become a 'pause' sign. Having a pause sign on their album could present ideas of the audience listening to the album, relaxing and having a timeout. Pausing from their day-to-day life activities and stress. This is echoed further in their song 'Run' as the lyrics I explored previously represent running from your day-to-day life or problems. Compared to their other albums, this album seems a lot plainer and less about them as a band, as none of the band, are on this album. This tells me that the band are encouraging the influence of their music rather than them as band or them as people.

Foo Fighters - Wasting Light

Songs in the album

'Wasting Light' album by the Foo Fighters is a lot more based on the band's image rather than 'Concrete and Gold. The typography used within the album stands out completely for the audience to see and the red colour used displays connotations of light and fire as red is one of the three colours associated with fire and flames. One of the songs in the actual albums is called ' Bridge Burning', and so also echoes the fire aspect of light in the album's title 'Wasting Light'.

The front cover of the album shows different angles of the band's faces. This enables the audience to have a piece of memorabilia to keep. The whole album fits together well due to the black background and the bright colour overlay contrasting the black.

The middle section of the DigiPak contains a still image of the band practising a song with all their instruments out. This gives the audience an insight into their favourite band and how they practise the songs they love to listen to.

The back of the album presents fast colours which portray ideas of the music being fast also.

Nirvana - Nevermind
Released September 24, 1994

For this album 'Nevermind' by Nirvana, the overall colour of most of the album is blue. This contradicts typical codes and conventions of the 'rock' genre as blue is generally associated with acoustic or blues type of music rather than rock. Despite this, there is one square with red colours and what appears to be an image of hell. This does link to the rock genre as hell is associated with rock and the colour red also echoes this too.

The inside of the DigiPak is a lot plainer than the cover and the effect of this is that by looking in the inside of the DigiPak you wouldn't necessarily know that this album is a rock genre album. The DigiPak also comes with a booklet, which is useful for the audience but also could be kept as memorabilia. The booklet contains images of the band and also could contain lyrics from the various songs on the album.
