Magazine Advert Research

Foo Fighters - Wasting Light

Their band name and album title are in a bold, red colour which against the black stands out to the reader from a further distance, which works well. The colour used also links well to the 'rock' genre as red is popularly associated with the rock genre.

There are also reviews from other magazines relating to the new album. This persuades readers to buy their new album as the reviews are selling it well.

Foo Fighters have used the exact same photograph for 'Wasting Light' on their album as they have on this magazine advert too, which shows consistancy.

The band's record company is displayed at the bottom of the advert, similarly to the band's album too.

Having the band's faces as the magazine advert cover, enables the audience to know who is in the band 'Foo Fighters'.

Nirvana - Nevermind

The typography for the albums' name 'Nevermind' is in a unusual shape. This links perfectly with their theme of underwater and swimming, etc as the font is arranged as if the words have a rippled effect.

Nirvana have linked their own website on this magazine advert to possibly allow readers to access the website to know more about the band and upcoming events. They could have also linked it to allow them to buy merchandise or propaganda to produce more profit for them to enjoy.

Nirvana have used their band's logo as the font for the magazine advert. It stands out and also keeps a consistant theme within their work and other albums released.

Compared to Foo Fighter's magazine advert, Nirvana has displayed the released date. This enables the audience to know when the album will be out and a rush of sales should follow. Despite this, if the band is so well-known. they may not need to advertise this as their audience may be constantly up-to-date with the news of the band and be waiting for the album to be released whenever.

The advert also comes with a competition 'scan to win' which may influence people to buy the album when it is released. They also may be encouraged to scan the poster leading them to different merchandise or propaganda for the band which may result in more sales for the band - and more profits. Having added this extra feature, the band and it's new music will be talked about with a wider audience also.

The band have not put on their record labels and companies on this magazine advert.
